Liu Cong (b. 1987, Shandong) graduated from the Department of Oil Painting at China Central Academy of Fine Arts. He currently lives and works in Beijing. While Liu Cong rejected the idea of painting in his school years, he eventually returned to painting because of a shift in his perception of art as well as his empirical method. Liu Cong constructs an image through observing instead of plain imaginations of the forms of everyday objects. This is a process of highly progressive reason, which can also be understood as a discussion of how Liu Cong’s art is a deconstruction of three-dimensional plane to two-dimensional color and structure.
