A + Contemporary cordially invite you to our booth A01 at 2019 Taipei Dangdai. We are pleased to present a series of works by artist Kao Jun Honn, Chen Yufan and Chen Yujun, unfolding an interweaving trajectory of artistic practices from different geographic regions in the realm of contemporary arts. Born in the 1970s, the three artists derive from their own experiences, reflecting their pursuits for the hometown cultures and modes of living into individual artistic practices, threading videos, paintings, installations, archives and other forms of medium, following the trajectory of the history, developing the narratives that are related to the changing time and the shifts of the regions.
Kao Jun Honn’s latest video work “Taoist Trinity Fairyland” is a narrative based from the news of the excessive land disposals and usages under the paradigm of capital power system. The work combines local legend, revisiting the ritualistic performances happened at the Topa (Great Leopard) river region. This format, not only parallels with artist’s ongoing “Topa (Great Leopard) Project“, also juxtaposes the contemporaneous social situations with the historical contexts.
In Chen Yufan’s “Derivative” series, composed by dots and lines, the pictorial surfaces unfold artist’s perception of time through the acts of juxtapositions and repetitions. This is also a process which artist communicates with the materials, a meditation of self-practices. Chen Yujun’s “Temporary Family” series, however, is derived from artist’s imagination towards the living spaces. The old furniture pieces and decorative objects that are arranged inside, the vertical lines and the fragmented home interiors, these elements dissolve with the acrylic paste, creating a state of fluidity.
At the same time, we are also pleased to present artist Peng Yihsuan’s “Scenic Marker” series at the “Salon Sector“. The markers on the whiteboard, fleeting as they were, record the sceneries that are passing by in front of our eyes. As if assembling a landscape viewing stand, where the information listed upon the board sometimes is used merely for the explanation purpose, yet, the views are in fact already unfolded in front of us.
